Paediatric Neurologist


Dr Bindu Parayil Sankaran is a paediatric neurologist with over 15 yrs of experience. She completed her specialist training in paediatrics and then undertook her neurology training in India and Australia. These include training in the National institute of mental health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bangalore, India and the Children’s Hospital at Westmead NSW. She has also completed a PhD at Maastricht University Netherlands, investigating the role of brain MRI findings and phenotype-genotype correlations in childhood mitochondrial disorders.

She currently works as a consultant paediatric neurologist at Sydney Adventist Hospital and formerly worked as a staff specialist at Liverpool Hospital. She also holds academic positions as a senior lecturer with both universities of Sydney and the Australian National University (ANU). In addition, she is an adjunct professor of paediatric neurology at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, a prestigious university in India. She was formerly a Professor of Neurology at NIMHANS Bangalore, India’s largest neurology training institute in India.

She is an established researcher and has published over 125 peer-reviewed scientific papers in paediatric neurology, especially childhood neurogenetic and neurometabolic disorders. Her special interests include childhood epilepsies, including benign epilepsies, epileptic encephalopathies, and neurogenetic disorders.
